City of Masters Celebration in the Great Courtyard of the Winter Palace

On 1 June 2007, on International Children's Day, the Master Class International Foundation for Support of Culture and the Bumazhnoye Show interactive theatre held a big celebration for children that was called City of Masters. More than 1,500 children aged 13 to 18 from Petersburg orphanages and boarding schools took part in master classes together with museum visitors.

Seasoned master artisans conducted master classes in which they shared their experience and knowledge in manufacturing costumes, small ships and cranes from paper, dolls and flowers from fabrics, design of balloons, painting in water colors, ceramics, modeling clay, ceramics and forging craft. Competitions were held in such areas as drawing on paper and drawing on asphalt.

During the event there were live broadcasts from the children's celebration inMoscow at the the Izmailovo Museum-Preserve. Greetings to the children of Moscow and St Petersburg from RF Minister of Internal Affairs Rashid Nurgaliev were also broadcast live.

At an official part of the ceremony, greetings were delivered by St Petersburg Deputy Governor Ludmila Kotkina, Deputy Director of the State Hermitgage Vladimir Matveev, and the artistic director of the Master Class Foundation Tamara Semenova.
