Sixth Round Table: The Museum and Problems of Cultural Tourism

On 24 April 2008, for the sixth time the Sector for Tourism and Special Programmes of the State Hermitage Museum ran what has become an annual round table, The Museum and Problems of Cultural Tourism. The event was held in the Council Hall.

This year’s round table was included as part of an extensive museum programme celebrating the centenary of the birth of Academician Boris Borisovich Piotrovsky (1908-1990).

In the orders of the day the round table discussed various themes associated with problems arising from cultural tourism. One can observe that along with a growth in the numbers of speakers, a group of permanent participants has also developed, whose every message opens up new borders in the creative process of working with tourist projects. Representatives from Russian museums in Archangelsk, Petrozavodsk, Kazan, Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg and other locations become more and more actively involved.

Traditionally staff from Russian and overseas museums have exchanged their unique experiences along with university lecturers and managers of tourist companies.

As a result of the Sixth Round Table a collation of lectures has been produced on The Museum and Problems of Cultural Tourism, edited by V.Yu. Matveev, Î.B. Arkhipova, published by the State Hermitage Publishing House, St. Petersburg, 2008
