Worldwide Club of Petersburgers Assembly held at the State Hermitage Museum

The Assembly of the Worldwide Club of Petersburgers, dedicated to the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Boris Borisovich Piotrovsky was held on 18 June 2008 in the Armorial Hall of the Winter Palace.

Present at the State Hermitage Museum were deputies of the Legislative Assembly, representatives from the Government of St. Petersburg, General Consuls from foreign states, famous scientists, artists, company directors, bankers, representatives of publishing houses, museums and also librarians.

According to tradition the Assembly was opened by the president of the Worldwide Club of Petersburgers, the director of the State Hermitage Museum, Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky.

At the concluding meeting of the Expert Committee and the Round Table on Municipal Aesthetics were awarded with the ‘Mark of Conformity’ consisting of a golden square with an extruding figure on the facing side of 122.5 (the height of the spire on the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral) the Historical Architectural Artistic Museum in Kronshtadt for the category of Preserving and Developing St. Petersburg’s tradition of Synthesizing Architecture and Monumental Art and Integrated Beautification of the Municipal Environment; monuments to General Brusilov and Anna Akhmatova in the category of Monuments and Sculpture in the Municipal Environment; the St. Petersburg Jewish Community House for the category of Contemporary Architecture in St. Petersburg’s Historical Milieu.

The winner of the annual city competition for creativity My St. Petersburg Lineage, Svetlana Sergeeva won a prize.

New members of the club were introduced: Professor Marietta Ernestovna Giza of the St. Petersburg Repin State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, the deputy chairman of KGIOP, Boris Kirikov, representative of the Russian State Duma, Sergei Petrov, Honoured Artist of Russia, laureate of the State Prize, Nikita Fomin.

Ilona Zhabenko, Yuliya Krushina and Svetlana Sergeeva were accepted into the club as junior members.

Sagitt Bilyalovich Bidzhiev, the chairman of the board of directors for the Krasnaya Nit textile mill became the club’s guardian.

The evening was concluded with a concert by the Smolny Cathedral Choir.
