The ceremony of awarding the grants of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation to the employees of the Hermitage

8 December 2008, a ceremony of awarding the grants of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation to a hundred employees of the State Hermitage is going to be held for the fourth time.

The mission of the long-term joint programme of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation and the State Hermitage is to contribute to the development of the museum’s human resources and to create favourable conditions for fruitful scientific and production work of promising employees. The sum of one grant is 40,000 roubles.

The grant support covers a wide range of the museum’s activities. It is not only traditional activities such as processing, storage and registration of documents, creation of electronic catalogues and databases, restoration projects, organisation of temporary exhibitions, preparing catalogues and monographs devoted to various collections, authentication of works of art, preparation and defence of theses, preparation of bibliographic reference books, publishing activities, educational, scientific and multimedia projects. Grants are also given to specialists who have achieved success in creating and implementing new development programmes, carrying out technical and technological researches, scheduled and financial projects as well as improving conditions of the visitor reception.

The Grants of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation are awarded annually with regard to the results of a competition. The applicants are appointed by the heads of the departments of the State Hermitage with regard to the employees’ contribution to the implementation of the museum’s projects which are currently in progress or have already been realised. The evaluation of the submitted applications is carried out by the Grant Committee of the State Hermitage in cooperation with the representatives of the Foundation. The decision on grant awarding is taken by the Scientific Council of the museum. Since 2005, 400 employees of the Hermitage have been awarded grants of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation.

At the awarding ceremony in the Hermitage Theatre there will be a slide-show containing information on several programmes of the museum, for the implementation of which the employees of the Hermitage have received grants in 2008.
