The next stage of cooperation of the State Hermitage and Company “Knauf Gips Kolpino” on preservation of a collection of German art in the museum

In 2012 it will be 300 years from the date of Christian Wilhelm Dietrich’s birth. Collection of his pictures in the Hermitage on its quantity (30), quality and a variety of genres perhaps is the best outside Germany.

Before the artist’s anniversary the State Hermitage continues the program of restoration of his pictures for a future exhibition.

26 November 2008, in the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre premise an informal meeting of collective of restorers of the State Hermitage, management and representatives of LLC Knauf Gips Kolpino took place. There have been represented results of work on restoration of two pictures of the German master: A landscape with a herd of goats (oil on canvas 218 õ 252,5 cm) and A Herd (oil on canvas 184,5 õ 240,5 cm).

This restoration project is a continuation of cooperation of the State Hermitage and Knauf Gips Kolpino Company on preservation of a collection of German art in the museum. A year earlier three wooden polychromatic reliefs of German masters of XV-XVI centuries have been presented: “St. George the Victorious”, “Miracle of St. Nicholas” and “Execution of a Martyr” which have been restored with assistance of the company.

It is remarkable, that this meeting took place in restoration workshops of the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre premises because restorers of the Hermitage had got the opportunity of restoration of large format paintings in specially equipped workshops only after put into operation the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre.
