Concluding Student Conference at the State Hermitage Museum’s Youth Educational Centre

On 18 May 2008, at the Youth Educational Centre the concluding student conference was held for which St.Petersburg students prepared interesting and original papers under the section leadership of staff from the State Hermitage Museum – section leaders and the curator of the Hermitage Student Club, V.Ya.Snegovskaya.

The programme for the final conference for the academic year of 2007-2008 included papers, reports and presentations on the following subjects:

Gazprom CITY Project – the Perspective of Students from the Architectural Faculty at the St. Petersburg State Architectural Construction University (Irina Golovtseva, Natalya Levykina, Natalya Noskova, The Petersburg Club section, section leader E.A.Cherlenok);

By a Wing of the Crow and the Predator’s Paw... Animalistic Style on Land and in the Sky (Natalya Volchkova, Landmarks section, section leader S.B.Esman);

From St. Petersburg to Tsarskoe Selo: A Journey to the Middle Ages (Alena Ignateva, Yuliya Filippova, Medieval Workshop section, section leader E.I. Etsina);

The Third Rome (Svetlana Guseva, Diana Khabibulina, Man, Art, Time section, section leader I.P.Zorina);

Lucretius in Western European Painting. To the Insight of Rembrandt (Anna Kladova, Artist and Poet section, section leader V. Ya. Snegovskaya);

The Philosophy of Poem – Sufism (Mariya Bikeeva, Valentina Artemeva, Space, Gods, Man section, I.V.Dyubanova’s group);

Specifics of the Movie Screen: Films and Screens (Konstantin Timashov, Screen Construction Section, section leader Yu.A. Shuisky).

Darina Linskaya in her paper talked about the creative work of the Lo Studio Italiano section (section leader Ì.V. Vlasova) A Musical Journey through Italy: An Invitation to the Opera in Naples, which was held on 16 February at the Winter Palace of Peter the Great. At the end of the report excerpts were played from famous 18th century operas.

The group of students from the Space, Gods, Man section under the section leadership of E.V. Logacheva presented in the form of two musical presentations a report on an interesting trip through the cities of the Vladimir and Suzdal lands which concluded their study of the art and culture of the Ancient Rus during the course of the study year.

The Painting Genres section (section leader N.G. Makho) acted a play Live Pictures – a witty theatrical representation of masterpieces of fine arts.

Irina Batsanova, a student from the Artist and Poet section, talked about her research on the subject of Museum Youth Centres in the Creative Development of Students.

In the workshops for artists there was a display of works by students of the section, which included portraits, still lives, and landscape scenes.

The conclusion of the academic year confirmed once more the broad spectrum of subjects covered by the sections and the significant creative potential of students already involved in the museum’s educational programmes for a few years at the Youth Educational Centre of the State Hermitage Museum.
