The New Year Holiday Season
at the Drawing Studio of the School Center On 27 December 2008, an exhibition entitled "We draw in the Hermitage" opened at the Drawing Studio of the School Center. It is traditional for the opening of this exhibition in the foyer of the Hermitage Theatre to be accompanied by a New Year's show in costumes on the stage of the imperial theatre in which pupils of the drawing studio take part. A handsome procession of children wearing masquerade costumes festively
made its way through the halls of the museum. The opening ceremony of the exhibition
took place in the foyer of the Hermitage Theatre. Director
of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky officiated at the opening. Then the children
and invited guests entered the Hermitage Theatre. The artists
and spectators took their places, ready to watch short, The preparation for the holiday show took two months and parents as well as the children took part. Together they chose the heroes to be presented, created the costumes and composed the texts. The theme of the show was closely associated with what the children were studying in the museum during the year. The youngest students in the drawing studio traditionally portray fairytale personages and this is the most touching part of the show. The older children are offered themes relating to exhibitions and displays in the Hermitage, to art genres, to the history of the museum and its collections. The holiday is traditionally organized in the Hermitage Theatre and the children invite their parents, grandparents and acquaintances, all of whom enthusiastically encourage the young performers in their appearance on the famous stage.
