The State Hermitage Museum International
Advisory Board Fifteenth annual meeting
The Fifteenth meeting of the State Hermitage Museum International Advisory
Board was held in St. Petersburg on 28 - 29 August, 2009.
Traditionally, the discussions deal with most pressing issues of the Museum’s
development. Working sessions were held in the Conference Hall
of the State Hermitage Museum. As usually, themes for discussion were
developed by the Director of the State Hermitage Museum Prof. Mikhail
Piotrovsky. This year the questions introduced for consideration by the International
Advisory Board concerned the future exhibitions in the Eastern
Wing of the General Staff Building (currently under reconstruction), as well
as the State Hermitage Museum exhibition centres in Russia (in the cities
of Kazan and Vyborg) and abroad (in Ferrara and Amsterdam).

On August 29, 2009 the working session of the International
Advisory Board was held in the city of Vyborg. Program
of the trip included visits to the Mon Repos Park
State Historic and Natural Reserve Museum; Vyborg Castle; Alvar Aalto
City Library and the building of the future Hermitage-Vyborg
Centre which is currently under restoration. Architect Rem Koolhaas
(AMO, Rotterdam) and Ernst Veen, Director of the Hermitage
• Amsterdam centre were invited to take part in the working
sessions of the Advisory Board.
