Dmitry Medvedev, the President of Russia, by his executive order awarded Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage, the Order for Services to the Motherland, III degree

9 December 2009, the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the Director of the State Hermitage, the President of the Museum Union of Russia, Deputy Chairman of the President’s Council for Art and Culture Mikhail Piotrovsky with his 65th anniversary:

"You - as a famous researcher and director of one of the largest artistic museums in the world - are well known in Russia and far beyond its borders.

Being at the head of the State Hermitage you have been doing a lot for restoration of unique monuments of art and technical modernization of storages, renovation of exhibitions, opening of Russian and foreign museum branches.

You also gained authority as a great scientist-orientalist, whose works are highly rated by academic society".

The President awarded Mikhail Piotrovsky the Order for Services to the Motherland, III degree.
