Research and Practice Seminar
On principles of restoration and reexposition in the halls of the Department
of Classical Antiquity On 4 February, 2009 Research and Practice Seminar devoted
to live issues of restoration and adaptation of historical
museum buildings, theory and practice of restoration in implementation
of the Program of reexposition of Ancient World halls
took place in the Bosphorus Halls of the State Hermitage.
Work under the Program has been begun in 1998, and twelve
projects are successfully completed for the last period.
Performances, reports and discussions on the following
themes took place during the Seminar: Watercolor Views of the New
Hermitage halls and principles of restoration, Program on reexposition
of Ancient World halls: results and prospects. Results of work
under the last project - restoration of the Vestibule of the Main
Staircase (Nikolayevskaya) have been summed up and approved
at the session. Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail
Piotrovsky, Deputy director Georgy Vilinbakhov, Main Keeper Svetlana Adaksina,
Deputy director Vladimir Ivanov, Main expert of the Committee
for State Control, Use and Preservation of Monuments
of History and Culture Tatiana Lebedeva, Academic secretary
Mariam Dandamayeva, Head of the Department of Classical
Antiquity Anna Trofimova, Head of Restoration of Sculpture
and Coloured Stones Department Svetlana Petrova took part
in the Seminar. During the discussion the participants
of the Seminar, both the management of the museum,
and experts, have noted, that in implementation of the program
an important result have been reached: scientific restoration alongside
with creation of modern museum expositions is realized
in historical interiors of the New Hermitage. This experience
has significant importance not only for the Ancient
World Department, but also for the museum as a whole.
Summing up works of the Seminar, Director of the Hermitage
again has emphasized necessity of full completion of the Program
by 2014 when the State Hermitage will celebrate The reconstruction and restoration works were conducted by OOO Likeon - Museum Concepts and Projects under the supervision of the staff of the State Hermitage Museum and the Committee on State Control, Use and Protection of Historical and Cultural Landmarks.
