International Museum Day in Velikiy Novgorod 18 May 2009 the State Hermitage and Novgorod State United Museum
organized a joint festive International Museum Day programme
in Velikiy Novgorod. Round table discussion on the subject The Hermitage in Velikiy Novgorod as a Factor of Tourism took place in the Museum of Fine Arts. The museum employees, representatives of tour operators as well as journalists from St Petersburg and Velikiy Novgorod took part in the discussion. It was held by the director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky, the director general of Novgorod State United Museum Nikolai Grinev, the director of the State Museum of Political History of Russia (St Petersburg) Evgeny Artemov, the director of the State Memorial Suvorov Museum Alexander Kuzmin and the executive director of the Union of Russian Museums (St Petersburg) Ludmila Aleksandrova. Press conference for the representatives of the press took place in the conference hall of the Museum of Fine Arts on the occasion of the opening of the Masterpieces of the European Enamel XI - Beginning of XX centuries exhibition from the collection of the State Hermitage. May 19th, 2009: Recently the Governor of Novgorod Region Sergey Mitin, the director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky and the director of Novgorod State United Museum Nikolai Grinev opened the Masterpieces of the European Enamel XII - Beginning of XX centuries exhibition of jewellery from the Hermitage in Velikiy Novgorod. The exhibition is timed to the International Museum Day, to the forthcoming 1150th anniversary of Velikiy Novgorod and to Hansa Convention that is celebrated in June. As communicated by the correspondent of Rosbalt the exhibition is located in the halls of the splendid building of the Museum of Fine Arts on the Sophia Square. There is approximately a hundred of jewelleries in the exhibition: old enamel paintings on various items of secular and ecclesiastical purpose such as ceremonial plates, saltcellars, vases, portraits, pieces of jewellery. Most enamel paintings are complemented with gold and silver patterns, precious stones. Snuffboxes are also presented at the exhibition since the subject of their paintings is closely connected with the Russian history. It is a snuffbox with the scene of the siege of Ochakov by the Russian army commanded by Prince Potyomkin, the image of the Bronze Horseman constructed by Falcone to the order of Empress Catherine the Great, and other. This is the eleventh exhibition of the artwork from the Hermitage in Velikiy
Novgorod. During the opening ceremony Mikhail Piotrovsky said:
"The ideology of such exhibitions is in the fact that every item
from them can be examined for a long time. It is hard to do so under the conditions
of the Hermitage itself since the attention of the visitor
in the halls of the huge museum is attracted by the Piotrovsky also pointed out that the special value of such exhibitions is in the authenticity of the items and not in their virtual image that is of high quality. He called all assembled not to go into the comfortable but scary virtuality but to experience life in its authenticity. Nikolai Grinev called the exhibition a precious gift to Velikiy Novgorod not just for the authenticity of its exhibits but also for the fact that the Hermitage took all organizational concerns (insurance of the exhibits, their transportation, placement) upon itself. "We have reliable and fruitful creative relations with the Hermitage. This is the eleventh similar exhibition of the great museum in Velikiy Novgorod", said Grinev. |
