The State Hermitage is a Nominee of the Museum Olympus Award 3 October 2009, the first Russian ceremony of museum awards was held. The statuette of Mnemosyne, goddess of memory, became the symbol of the Museum Olympus Award instituted at the initiative of the Committee for Culture of St Petersburg and Interagency Museum Council. 35 museums took part in the contest in 5 nominations: Museum Book, Innovations in the Museum, Museum for Children, Exhibition of the Year and Museum of the Year. To have the honour of carrying the title Museum of the Year the State Museum of Theatre and Music, St Petersburg State Museum of Bread, State Museum of the History of Religion and the State Monument Museum St Isaac's Cathedral placed their names in the nomination. The State Hermitage won the nomination Museum Book for publishing books in the series "Curator" (collection of articles and documents about Boris Piotrovsky, and author books by Nikolay Nikulin and Nina Biryukova). In the nomination Innovations in the Museum the State Museum of Urban Sculpture was awarded the Mnemosyne statuette for presenting a new method of conservation of stone monuments based on nanotechnology. The Kronstadt History Museum was honoured with a prize in Museum for Children nomination for organising an orienteering tournament Kronstadt step by step. The State Russian Museum became a winner of Exhibition of the Year prize (intermuseum exhibition Painting, Style, Fashion). The State Museum of Theatre and Music that celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008 became the Museum of the Year. The State Hermitage has also received Honorary diploma for the exhibition dedicated to the 300th Anniversary of the Battle of Poltava. |
