Lecture of ESCAPE Programme at the Hermitage Youth Centre

22 May 2009 the lecture by the artists who are a part of the famous Moscow ESCAPE art-group took place at the State Hermitage Youth Centre. Valeriy Ayzenberg told about his mission. The lecture was accompanied by the presentation of the main projects of the programme for the period 1999 - 2009 and the brand new work called 100 Prohibitions. At the end of the meeting the artists answered the questions of the audience.

ESCAPE programme was created in 1999 by the artist Valeriy Ayzenberg. From the moment of its creation and to the present day the activities of the ESCAPE programme have been related to the criticism of the engagement practice, simulation of various forms of social functioning and blurring of the art limits. Most works can be characterized by a combination of various artistic schools and even styles. Almost every project is multimedia and sometimes it is made in the form of a total installation (painting, photo, object, video, audio, performance, text). The programme positioned itself as a non-profit gallery, took the form of a shop, a tourist agency, a repair service and even a finding homeland service.

Today ESCAPE is one of the most active forces acting on Moscow artistic stage. Its influence was recognized by awarding the prize For the Achievements in the Field of Actual Art for the programme at the workshops of Art Moscow 2003 and presentation of the project at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005.
