Student's Day - 2009. The Hermitage Theatre: from the 18th century to the 21st

By tradition Students' Day - a holiday that unites the youth within the walls of one of the largest museums of the world took place on the first Sunday of October. This year it was dedicated to pages of history of the Hermitage Theatre and gathered together approximately 300 young people.

In past it was a court imperial theatre, in the twentieth century it was a lecture hall, and in the new century it has been a hall for conferences, international music festivals and all festive events of the State Hermitage. These days celebrated Russian and foreign performers appear on the stage of the Hermitage Theatre again. Yulia Denisova, employee of the Scientific and Educational Department of the museum, told about this to all the attendants.

Extensive programme for the Students' Day also included presentation of various groups of the Hermitage Student Club and a story about open programmes of the Youth Educational Centre of the State Hermitage. Topical round-table discussions and entertaining master-classes, traditional lectures and always interesting meetings with famous people, artists, art historians, exhibition curators and writers - all that is awaiting Petersburg students in the new academic season.

Music surprise completed the Students Day programme. The Ensemble of The State Hermitage Orchestra Soloists performed music of celebrated Italian composers.
