New Year’s Festivities for Special Children

24 December 2009, a festival for children that are challenged in their development took place at the Hermitage Theatre. Approximately 300 children filled the auditorium. Each year the Hermitage Theatre makes its stage available to special schools - No. 34 and No. 370, No. 36 and No. 627, students of which are studying at the Hermitage programme Our Hermitage. The students, teachers and educational instructors of these schools prepared a theatrical programme by their own scripts, the children learnt their roles, together with their teachers and parents they sewed costumes, staged dance routines, made stage scenery. Their knowledge and impressions from classes at the museum were reflected in the script, in the costumes and in the stage scenery. This year three performances were put on stage of the Hermitage Theatre. One of them was after the motif of the Russian folk fairy tale The Scarlet Flower, the second is called Following in Footsteps of a Familiar Tale, and the third one is called The New Year’s Greeting.

The festival has been organized in the course of several years with financial support from Baker&McKenzie Company, on the money of which buses are ordered, gifts are purchased for children and for schools.
