Congratulation. 600 Years of the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in Amsterdam

The State Hermitage with great pleasure and delight congratulates the Gothic Nieuwe Kerk on 600 years from its foundation and 40 years from the Fund establishment.

Astonishing story of the Nieuwe Kerk is full of dramatic pages and solemn events. It is a symbol of the Netherlands’ history and Dutch culture.

We would like to congratulate the Nieuwe Kerk on 40 years from the exhibition center establishment, which brought new glory to its story.

The Hermitage is glad that for 30 years our museum has been closely related to the Nieuwe Kerk and its Director Ernst Veen. Exhibitions, well-remembered by many such as Scythian Gold (1994), Catherina the Great: Empress and Art (1997), Earthly Beauty – Heavenly Art..." (1999), The Stroganovs: History of one Family (2002), From the Hermitage with Love (2003),

On the initiative of the Nieuwe Kerk the Hermitage Friends’ Club was established in the Netherlands, thanks to which grand projects on reconstruction of halls, dedicated to Dutch painting were carried out in the State Hermitage.

The Nieuwe Kerk is also a progenitor of the Hermitage-Amsterdam Center which was established on the initiative and active participation of the whole staff of the Nieuwe Kerk. Opened for the first time in 2004 and since 2009 having spread on the great scopes of Amstelhof, the Hermitage-Amsterdam Center has become a significant part of Cultural life of Holland and Russia, characteristic and simultaneously unique event in cultural relations of our countries and nations.

We congratulate all our friends in the Nieuwe Kerk, we congratulate all friends of the Nieuwe Kerk in the Netherlands on this splendid holiday! We rejoice together with you and together with you here in St Petersburg we would like to raise a glass to health and prosperity of culture and historical memory of our nations!
