5th International Charity Gala Reception in the Winter Palace On 25 June, 2010 the State Hermitage hold the 5th International Charity Gala Reception. Money collected thanks to the reception goes to finance the project of reconstruction of the eastern Wing of the General Staff Building and establishment of the Museum of Arts of the 19th, 20th and 21st Centuries. The project will be completed by celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Hermitage in 2014. Co-chairmen of the Committee of Honor of the International Charity Gala Reception are Governor of St Petersburg Valentina Matvienko, Alexander Avdeyev Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, Alexey Kudrin Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation, Prince Dmitry Romanov, President of Interros Company Vladimir Potanin, Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky. That night guests of the museum visited Garden of Modern Art, located in the courtyard of the Old Hermitage, where they got acquainted with works of modern artists: Silence by Pyotr Bely the prize winner of Sergey Kurekhin Award of 2009, Valkyrie by Daria Fursey, Return by a famous St Petersburg sculptor Dmitry Kaminker, Head of Sobchak by President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli and works from the series Birth Certificate by Philipp Dontsov. The exhibitions Picasso. From the Collection of the National Museum of Picasso in Paris and Wind in the Pines... 5000 Years of the Korean Art were opened for the guests of the Hermitage; 24 works by Ilya and Emiliya Kabakovs made in the technique of silk-screen printing, included in the collection of works donated by the authors to the State Hermitage were represented in the Foyer of the Hermitage Theater. The sculpture CLASP of one of the most famous modern British monumentalists Antony Gormley created a month ago is exhibited in the rooms of the Antiquity Art. The work is demonstrated under support of JT International Company, in cooperation with the British Council and it is an advertisement of a large exhibition of the author which will take place the next year. The exhibition of one of the brightest artists of modern age Anish Kapoor especially coincides with the Charity Gala Reception. His work Sky Mirror can be seen till the end of the summer in the Great Courtyard of the Winter Palace. The exposition is organized under support of JT International Company in cooperation with the British Council. The musical program was notable for its originality. It included the play Accents by group Top-9, the best brake-dance team of Russia, prize winners of many international contests; a choreographic composition on music Mikhail Ivanov especially prepared for this party in production of the prize winner of international contests Daniil Salimbayev; jazz compositions played by Anton Rumyantsev (saxophone) and Brothers Andrey (contrabass) and Mikhail (piano) Ivanovs, Distinguished Artists of Russia, prize winners of many European contests and festivals. The pavilion which held Gala Banquet Feast of Flowers was decorated with watercolors by Alla Belyakova, one of the favorite pupils of Artur Fonvizin and Robert Falk and flower arrangements. 2010 year – is the year of the 65th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The way the Hermitage looked like in the war years can tell works of an excellent architect and designer Alexander Sergeyevich Nikolsky, made by him in besieged Leningrad. They could be seen in the memorial bomb shelter, serving the shelter for the museum staff in terrible days of blockade. A wonderful master, leading artist of St Petersburg Imperial Porcelain Manufactory Nelly Petrova dedicated her work to the victory theme. She created the vase Spring of Victory especially for the exposition of the Hermitage at the exhibition Intermuseum-2010.
