The 4th Days of Classics Festival

From 21 to 25 April 2010 the fourth (4th) Days of Classics Festival took place in the halls of the Department of the Ancient World. Within the Festival’s framework the World of Classics in Colors drawing competition was arranged for art school students. Participants of the competition performed tasks in three themes: Battles and feasts in myths and legends of Ancient Greece and Rome, a theme for children aged 6-8; Prosecutions and abductions in myths and legends of Ancient Greece and Rome, a theme for children aged 9-12; Metamorphoses, 13 and older.

More than 300 students of the city’s art schools and art studios participated in the competition. The best works that developed the theme more fully were selected by the jury and are displayed at an exhibition in the Sivkov passage  of the State Hermitage.

The Youth Center of the State Hermitage prepared a series of photo works on the theme Ancient Traditions and Contemporaneity, with the best works also displayed in the the Sivkov passage  of the State Hermitage.

Within framework of the Days of Classics Festival master classes on art molding from ancient monuments (sculptor A. Fumelli) and scientific lectures on the history of restoring the statue of Dionysus (L. Davydova, senior research associate of OAM; E. Andreeva, artist-restorer) were held.

A quest game Labyrinth: Find a Hero for schoolchildren was specially prepared for the Days of Classics Festival.

The Festival’s winners were awarded on 25 April 2010 at the Hermitage Theater. The Days of Classics Festival was organized by the State Hermitage with the support of the company Likeon: Musical Concepts and Projects.
