9th International music festival Grand Waltz
12 July 2010 a press-conference dedicated to opening the 9th International music festival Grand Waltz was held at the Hermitage Theater.
The festival, presented by the State Hermitage, Interregional social organization Creative alliance of museum employees of Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region, will be held from 16 to 26 July 2010. The festival concerts will be staged at the Hermitage Theater, the Grand Throne Dais (the George Hall’s) of the Winter Palace, the Grand Palace of Peterhof, the Catherine Palace of Tsarskoe Selo and, certainly, in the Rose Pavilion of Pavlovsk.
Within the framework of the Grand Waltz festival eleven concerts are held annually according to the number of summer seasons spent by Strauss in Petersburg. This year the concerts will take place at the Hermitage Theater, the George’s Hall of the Winter Palace, the Grand Palace of Peterhof, the Catherine Palace of Tsarskoe Selo and, certainly, the Rose Pavilion of Pavlovsk where the great Austrian composer performed.
Each concert not only imitates the programs of Strauss seasons but also develops the traditions of chamber democratic music-making adopted almost two centuries ago. The 9th Festival’s program includes evenings of symphonic and orchestral music and vocal evenings.
Among the Festival’s performers are the masters who have had a significant impact on the history of musical culture: soloists of the Viennese opera Marcella Cerno (soprano) and Herwig Pecoraro (tenor), famous Austrian conductor Peter Gut and famous Russian conductors Vladimir Ziva, Alexander Kantorov, Alexey Karabanov and Dmitry Khokhlov, famous pianists Peter Laul and Vladimir Mischuk, people’s artist of Russia Sergey Stadler as well as Saint Petersburg State Symphonic Orchestra Classics, Admiralty Orchestra of the Leninrad Naval Base, Andreev State Academic Russian People’s Orchestra.
Chairman of the festival’s distinguished committee is the director of the State Hermitage and the chairman of Interregional social organization Creative Alliance of Museum Employees of Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region, academician Mikhail Piotrovsky, the festival’s author and artistic director Yulia Kantor.
Following the patronage traditions, the festival is supported by Bank Moskvy, OJSC which has long-established partnership relations with the State Hermitage. The priority of Bank Moskvy’s activities in Saint Petersburg is given to the preservation of the Northern capital’s cultural heritage. This is the fourth joint festival of Bank Moskvy and the State Hermitage which is a revival of patronage traditions and the opportunity to share the richest spiritual legacy with our contemporaries.
