The State Hermitage accepted for temporary storage a sculptural image of a lion from the Pashkov House 21 October 2010 a marble sculptural image of a lion was transferred for temporary storage by Andrey Ruchiev, Head of the Administration of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for St Petersburg and the Leningrad region, to M. Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage. This sculptural image is believed to be part of decor of the Pashkov House, an architectural monument of federal significance. The sculptural image of a lion was discovered by the Administration of the Federal Security Service within the framework of activities ensuring the preservation of Russia’s cultural and historical heritage while monitoring the progress of construction works within the premises of St Petersburg State University of Service and Tourism located at Mokhovaya st., 40. According to the preliminary conclusion of experts of the State Hermitage, the discovered sculptural image of a lion dates back to the first quarter of the 19th century and has a cultural and historical value. |
