Head of Western European Fine Art Department of the State Hermitage Sergey Androsov was awarded the Giacomo Quarenghi prize

22 November 2010 a ceremony of awarding the Giacomo Quarenghi prize to Sergey Androsov, Head of Western European Department, took place in the Public Theater in Bergamo.

Originally, it was a local prize awarded to young researchers. The prize acquired an international status in 2010. It honors accomplishments in research activities related to studying works of the prominent Italian architect Giacomo Quarenghi and Italian artists who had ties with him, as well as works of artists of neoclassicism, in particular related to Russia during the reign of Catherine the Great, Paul I and Alexander I. The prize is approved by Osservatorio Quarenghi Association, founded I 1995, with the participation of City Council and Bergamo province, Lombardia region and Bergamo University for in-depth study of works by Giacomo Qarenghi and artists of his times.
On occasion of the official ceremony a concert of ancient music was held at the Public Theater and an exhibition of Sergey Androsov’s publications was arranged in the Angelo Mai Municipal Library.
