The Hermitage Gathers Friends! 2 December 2010 the State Hermitage in association with the Great Bear Regional Charitable Association held a charity campaign "The Hermitage Gathers Friends!" for children under care. Among the campaign participants were 200 teenagers, young people with a developmental delay from special correctional schools, rehabilitation centers and hospitals, boarding schools and orphanages for mentally retarded children. Such meetings have been held since 2004 annually within the framework of the International Decade of Disabled Persons. Each year the Education Center designs a new program of excursions so that children having visited them were enriched with new impressions and knowledge. Employees of the Examination and Education Department, having a vast experience in working with sick children, held excursions showing the masterpieces of the museum collections to the children. For the majority of children the campaign "The Hermitage Gathers Friends!" is a first serious exploration of the world culture. Exploring the beautiful and eternal art enables the psychological and emotional relief as the effective rehabilitation and social adaptation of physically challenged children. Following the excursions, a concert was held at the Hermitage Theater
which the children enjoyed immensely. Students of the Vaganova Russian
