New Year Celebration of the Art Studio of the School Center

On 25 December 2010 a bright procession of children wearing fancy dress lead by the Hermitage Director Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky marched from the Jordan Staircase of the Winter Palace to the Hermitage Theater Lobby where they solemnly opened an exhibition We Paint in the Hermitage showing the works of the students of the museum’s Art Studio.

Traditionally, the celebration was continued with a colourful performance on the theater’s stage. Together with their parents, the children had been preparing for it for two month when they had been choosing heroes, designing costumes and writing texts. The themes were closely connected with the subjects the children had been studying at the Art Studio for the previous year. Fairy tales and myths, the Hermitage’s halls and exhibits, the museum’s history came to life in the performance of the young actors.

At the end the celebration a fur tree made by the children appeared on the stage; senior students of the Art Studio had decorated it with hand-made gifts for younger students.
