An exhibition of art weapon from the State Hermitage Museum opened in the Hermitage-Kazan Center

On 10 February an exhibition of art weapon from the Sate Hermitage Museum opened in the Hermitage-Kazan Center, the Kazan Kremlin State Museum and Historical Park. The visitors have a chance to see unique artifacts of gun smithing, applied and decorative arts and art works from six departments of the State Hermitage Museum.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mintimer Shaimiev, State Counselor of Tatarstan Republic, Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage Museum, President of the Union of Museums of Russia, and Zilya Valeeva, Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Republic and Minister of Culture of Tatarstan Republic.

"This is the eighth exhibition projects we have with the State Hermitage Museum. One the one hand, exhibitions of Hermitage collections have become a tradition for Tatarstan. On the other hand, they are always a very important unique cultural events," said Zilya Valeeva opening the exhibition.

Mintimer Shaimiev, State Counselor of Tatarstan Republic first of all thanked Mikhail Piotrovsky personally. "The State Hermitage Museum gives us a pleasure to enjoy the heritage considered to be the richest in the world," noted the first President of Tatarstan. All the Hermitage exhibitions are unique and noone can be indifferent to them, he said.

In the view of Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage Museum, the exhibition in Kazan was great. "This is a unique exhibition of weapon that is not only the tool of death and fight. It is also a development technology, the status of man, part of clothing, beautiful art, skill of an artist...," emphasized M. Piotrovsky.

The exhibition of art weapon from the Sate Hermitage Museum opened in the Hermitage-Kazan Center will work in the Kazan Kremlin State Museum and Historical Park until 9 October 2011.

An illustrated catalogue was prepared for the exhibition; the author of the catalogue is the exhibition’s manager Yuri Georgievich Yefimov, the head of the weapon section of the Arsenal Department of the State Hermitage Museum.
