The Hermitage Readings in Memory of B. B. Piotrovsky

On 15 February 2011 the Hermitage Theater was a venue for the traditional annual readings in memory of Boris Borisovich Piotrovsky, an outstanding Russian archaeologist and orientalist, director of the State Hermitage Museum for over twenty years. The papers given at the conference were in accord with broad interests of B. B. Piotrovsky and reflect diverse scientific activities of the encyclopedic museum such as the Hermitage. The discussions concerned problems of contemporary archeology, new attributions and interpretations of the Hermitage monuments, the history of the museum collections and introducing new exhibits. The readings in memory of B. B. Piotrovsky give an opportunity to understand what the modern museum science is and are a kind of an informal annual report of the Hermitage work.
