Student’s Day 2011

On 2 October 2011, Student’s Day was held in the Hermitage, which celebrated the opening of a new education season in the State Hermitage Youth Centre.

Students gathered in the Hermitage Theatre and, following tradition, were welcomed by the Director of the Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky, who wished them success in the new academic season which will be very rich.

In the Year of Russia in Italy and Year of Italy in Russia-2011, as part of the parallel program of the 54th Venice Biennale, the Hermitage presented several projects in Venice: an exhibition of the works of Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov and the exhibition “Ars longa, vita brevis. 18th century porcelain and life of a modern museum: before the exhibition”. This significant event, the participation of the largest Russian museum in the Venice Biennale, was marked in the main official part of the student celebration. After all, events that are significant for the museum will become subjects for discussion among young people.

The senior researcher of the Western European Fine Art Department L.V. Lyakhova talked about the exhibition “Ars longa, vita brevis”, which is being held in the courtyard of the Ca’ Corner della Regina in Venice, while the head of the modern art sector D.Yu. Ozerkov presented the exhibition project “Dmitry Prigov: Dmitry P.” held in the Ca’ Foscari University.

Student’s Day gives young people the opportunity to find out about the Hermitage Student Club, and its new season program for 2011–2012.

Student’s Day ended with a game-surprise “11 masterpieces in the halls of the museum”, which became an original review and surprise prepared by museum employees for young people of the city.
