A Family Holiday Assembly of Ice Sculpture The Realm of the Snow Queen in the Winter Palace

11 December 2011, a family ice assembly called The Realm of the Snow Queen in the Winter Palace was held as part of Hermitage Days. This event was organized by the School Centre, the Hospitality Service of the Hermitage and the management of the “Ice Studio” Art Centre.

This is the eighth time that parents and children have been invited to participate in this Art Studio. Over the course of three weeks they drew sketches for the future sculpture. 12 of the 46 drawings were chosen for use by the Art Studio’s specialists for their work with ice.

Family teams got to work on the morning of 10 December. They set out to create their own works of art according to their earlier sketches with the specialists from the Ice Studio who helped them with technical questions. These sculptures were dedicated to fairytale images and Hermitage-related subjects.

All of the children who participated in the ice assembly were given presents by the Hermitage and the Ice Studio.
