Titian’s “The Flight into Egypt”
Dedicated to the completion of the painting’s restoration

The “Flight into Egypt”, a restored painting by one of the greatest painters of the Renaissance, Tiziano Vecellio, was presented at the Hermitage Theatre on March 13th, 2012.

The Restoration Commission of the Laboratory for the Scientific Restoration of Easel Painting of the State Hermitage Museum decided to conduct a full set of restoration work on the painting in March 1999. This work was entrusted to two fine art restorers of the highest calibre, A.V. Kuznetzov and V.V. Shatzky.

This presentation included a slide film, dedicated to the stages of the restoration of the painting, featuring commentary by the head of the Laboratory for the Scientific Restoration of Easel Painting, V.A. Korobov.

I.S. Artemyeva, head academic associate of the Department of Western European Fine Art, described her research on this early piece by the Venetian master.
