Grand Assembly of the World Wide Club of Petersburgers

On January 21, 2013 the Hermitage Theater hosted the Grand Assembly of the World Wide Club of Petersburgers, dedicated to the 22-year anniversary of its birth.

Those present at the Assembly included Members of the Legislative Assembly, representatives of the Government of Saint Petersburg and the diplomatic corps, famous artists and scientists, managers of commercial organizations, banks, publishing houses, museums and libraries.

As is tradition, the President of the Club, M.B. Piotrovsky opened the Assembly, dedicating his speech to the results of the club’s work and its upcoming plans and projects.

Last season saw the continuation of the work of the Round Table on questions of the aesthetics of the urban environment; the sessions of this Round Table led to an evaluation of urban construction, architectural / artistic and public services and amenities activities in Saint Petersburg. The consolidated public evaluation of urban construction projects is reflected in the World Wide Club of Petersburgers White (achievements) Red (warnings about potential damages) and Black (mistakes and failures) books. At the Assembly, construction projects that were entered in the White Book were honored with award certificates and gold Seals of Approval in the form of square with the number 122.5 (which is symbolic for the World Wide Club of Petersburgers) on the front.

The Club always gives special preference to children’s programs that support the develop of young talents. The International “Star of Prometheus” Contest, which has become traditional over the past 17 years, was dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of the first president of the World Wide Club of Petersburgers, N.A. Tolstoy, a famous scientist, public figure and professor at Saint Petersburg University.

The guests at the Assembly were presented new books published as part of the Library of the World Wide Club of Petersburgers: Primary Chronicle and the 6th edition of the literary almanac of the global Russian-speaking diaspora Under a Single Sky.

As always, the State Hermitage Museum prepared a surprise for the members of the Club. A precious historical document was placed in the Foyer of the Hermitage Theatre: A Certificate on the Entry of the Line of A.I. Stackenschneider into the Noble and Genealogical Book of the Province of Saint Petersburg (1841).

The Assembly concluded with a concert by the students of the Municipal Palace of Youth Art.
