Victory over the Sun in the General Staff Building

On 15 March 2013, the Atrium of the General Staff Building at the Hermitage hosted the opening of the From the Avant Garde to Today International Arts Festival. A contemporary edition of the futurist opera Victory over the Sun, created a hundred years ago by M. Matyushin (music), K. Malevich (design) and A. Kruchenykh (libretto). This futurist opera served as an example of the Avant Garde synthesis of literature, music and visual art.

In the new staging, Matyushin’s original music was heard at the beginning of the show, and then the music of both famous contemporary composers and conservatory students was used.

The performance of the opera Victory over the Sun set the stage for the opening of an exhibit dedicated to the 100-year anniversary of its premiere.
