The Hermitage School of Restoration. The Greater Ural Regional Program

On 12-14 November, 2001, the first Ural Regional Conference of Restoration Specialists was held in Yekaterinburg. The Conference was inaugurated by Natalya K. Vetrova, Minister of Culture of the Sverdlovsk Region Administration, and Vladimir Yu. Matveyev, Deputy Director of the State Hermitage. Best specialists in the restoration of fabrics, ceramics, organic materials, drawings and metal artifacts from the State Hermitage took place in the Conference.

Restorers from the Ural and West Siberia, Bashkiria, Udmurtia, Komi-Permyatsky Autonomous Area, Orenburg and Irkutsk were represented at the Conference. They exchanged their experience and discussed problems of restoration, observation of artifacts before and after restoration, restoration-related research and documents.

On 15-25 November, 2001, the Restoration Atelier of the Sverdlovsk Region Local History Museum hosted the Hermitage School of Restoration according to the Greater Ural Regional Program. Classes were given in the restoration of works of applied art from glass and bone.
