The Hermitage Academic Council Meets
The Hermitage Academic Council met on 28 November, 2002, in the Big Hall
of the Menshikov Palace to discuss the restoration of sculptures which
decorated the attic of the Menshikov Palace's southern facade in the first
quarter of the 18th century. The Hermitage scholars and guests from the
State Committee for Control, Use and Protection of Monuments of History
and Art of St. Petersburg, Repin State Academic Institute of Painting,
Sculpture and Architecture and Mikhaylov Architecture Studio were greeted
by the Hermitage Director Mikhail B. Piotrovsky. Presentations made at
the meeting addressed the history and possible restoration of the sculptures.
Participants were showed models made by sculptor K.N. Bobkov and life-size
sculpture mock-ups from papier-mache erected atop the attic.
