The Hermitage Academic Council Meets

The Hermitage Academic Council met on 28 November, 2002, in the Big Hall of the Menshikov Palace to discuss the restoration of sculptures which decorated the attic of the Menshikov Palace's southern facade in the first quarter of the 18th century. The Hermitage scholars and guests from the State Committee for Control, Use and Protection of Monuments of History and Art of St. Petersburg, Repin State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and Mikhaylov Architecture Studio were greeted by the Hermitage Director Mikhail B. Piotrovsky. Presentations made at the meeting addressed the history and possible restoration of the sculptures. Participants were showed models made by sculptor K.N. Bobkov and life-size sculpture mock-ups from papier-mache erected atop the attic.
The meeting decided to restore the sculptures.
