The new museum store

A new museum store was opened at Winter Palace’s Rastrelli Gallery as part of a joint project between the National Hermitage and Museum On Line, Inc, which began in December 2001, when the Hermitage opened its shop online (www.shop.hermitagemuseum.org). In July 2002, a real incarnation of the virtual store was opened on the third floor, next to the French Impressionists, which sells both physically and on the Web.

The sprawling 250-sq m new store at the Rastrelli Gallery boasts an unusually large amount of art copies and souvenirs, including a voluminous book section with Hermitage catalogues, guides, and picture books not only on the Hermitage, but other major art museums as well, as well as a special section for reproductions and life-size posters of the museum’s art. For the first time, the store offers furniture copied from Hermitage exhibits. No part of the Hermitage collection has been overlooked by the store. Here you can find copies and replicas of marble sculptures, bronze and ceramic artifacts, jewelry modeled on the Hermitage’s Scythian, Greek, and Oriental prototypes, and truthfully copied Faberge items. All the copies and gifts at the store are top quality.

On the store’s computer monitors, the customer can choose from both the physical stocks, and the Hermitage’s electronic store. This is more convenient for customers, who can order items to be delivered to their door. Sometimes they have no choice, especially when the purchase is large and bulky.

The new store is a great addition to the Hermitage’s improving service infrastructure.
