Problems of Reconstruction and Restoration of Historical Centers
International Seminar

On 22-24 November, 2001, a seminar dedicated to the problems of architectural restoration and reconstruction was held at the State Hermitage Museum. This theme is especially actual for the Museum in connection with the projects of reconstructing the buildings of the Hermitage and the Strelna palace and park. Participants of the seminar analyzed new methods of examining historical buildings and areas and new technologies and materials offered and applied by construction companies in Russia, Italy, Germany and France. Architects believe their task is to revive the traditions of scientific restoration and adjust its principles to the modern conditions of the society’s development. Among the seminar participants was the magazine Design and Construction.
