Nonna Leonidovna Grach Memorial Conference at the Ancient World Department

On 5 December, 2001, took place a conference of the Hermitage's Ancient World Department dedicated to the memory of Nonna Leonidovna Grach (1929-1991) who headed the Black Sea Section and for over quarter of a century directed the Nympheum Archeological Expedition of the Hermitage. Specialists from the State Hermitage Museum and the Institute of Material Culture History of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Nonna L. Grach's friends and disciples took part in the conference. The meeting was opened by Mikhail B. Piotrovsky. Yury P. Kalashnik, Director of the Department, gave a concise survey of the scientific activities of Nonna L. Grach. Some of presentations dealt with Nympheum, findings and results of its exploration. Presentations that followed reflected the extent of Nonna L. Grach's professional interests. All the participants were saying that meeting with her changed their life.
