10th Anniversary of the Recreation of the Russian Heraldic Office
Conference

On 26-28 February, 2002, the Hermitage hosted a conference prepared by the State Hermitage Museum and the Russian Presidential Heraldic Council dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the recreation of the Heraldic Office of Russia.

The conference was opened by Georgy V. Vilinbakhov, Chairman of the Russian Presidential Heraldic Council, State Heroldmeister, Deputy Director Research of the State Hermitage Museum. During these years the Heraldic Office developed the design of the state arms and flag of the Russian Federation, took part in preparing the laws on the symbols of the state, designed state decorations, organized a number of official ceremonies, etc. One of the most important of the Council's functions is keeping the State Heraldic Register of the Russian Federation. The Office took part in the Heraldic Seminars of the State Hermitage Museum, organized the conferences 275 Years of the Russian Heraldic Office (1997) and 300 Years of the Russian Guards (2001), prepared the exhibition State Arms of Russia: 500 Years (1997) and issued a number of publications.
The Conference discussed the results of the activities of the Heraldic Office / State Heraldry / Heraldic Council over these years. Presentations dealing with various aspects of heraldry were made. Proceedings of the conference have been published. The Heraldic Office's anniversary is also commemorated by the industrial exhibition Heraldic Crafts (Northern Capital Exhibition Center, 26 February, 2002).
