Presentation of the Renovated section Virtual Tours in the State Hermitage Site in the Internet

This section offers new panoramic pictures of the Museum rooms and buildings - 85 tours round the Winter Palace, the Small, the Great and the New Hermitages, and 7 virtual tours round the Hermitage Theatre and the Winter Palace of Peter the Great. The visitors of the section may also enjoy splendid views from the roofs of the Hermitage buildings. The new subsection "Outside Views" offers 11 panoramic pictures of the historical centre of St.Petersburg.

103 virtual tours prepared all in all for the visitors of the State Hermitage Site offer pictures accompanied by the detailed description on the subject. 90 of them are absolutely new panoramas of the Museum interiors and exhibition rooms. These include 7 views of the Winter Palace of Peter the Great and the Hermitage Theatre and 11 views of St.Petersburg. Each panoramic picture is supplied with 2 or 3 additional images of a smaller size stressing the most interesting details. 10 virtual tours created within the framework of the "Hermitage - IBM" project (1997-1998) were used in this section of the site. They represent such famous interiors of the Museum as the Jordan Staircase, the Small Throne Room, the St George and the Pavilion Halls, the hall of Twenty Columns, the rooms of Leonardo da Vinci, of Greek Vases, the Jupiter Hall, the Italian Study and the Library of Nicholas II. Three interiors including the Tent Hall, the St Nicholas Hall and the Military 1812 War Gallery are so far accompanied by static pictures.

At the second stage of the virtual tours project (May - June 2001) it is planned to make tours round the Menshikov's Palace (10 to 15 panoramic pictures) and round the exhibition in the General Staff Building (10 to 15 panoramic pictures).
