International Seminar on the Hermitage Gothic Cross of St. Trudpert

On 2 and 3 September, 2002, the Hermitage hosted an international seminar on the masterpiece of Gothic jewelry, St. Trudpert's or Freiburg Cross of the 13th century in the museum's collection. Representatives of the Hermitage Departments of West European Art, Scientific Analysis and Ancient World and guests from education and research institutions of Germany, Austria, France and Poland took part in the event.

Presentations dealt with the role of the Monastery of St. Trudpert in the history of the German Empire, provenance of the Cross of St. Trudpert, its examination at the Hermitage and in Germany, form, imagery and decorations and artistic links with the medieval art of Strasbourg.
