The Hermitage Readings in Honor of Boris B. Piotrovsky (1908-1990)

On 18-19 February, 2003, the Hermitage held the annual Readings in honor of Academician Boris Borisovich Piotrovsky who this year would have celebrated his 95th birthday.

An illustrious archeologist and a major specialist in the history and archeology of the Ancient Orient and Caucasus, Boris B. Piotrovsky from 1964 to 1990 was director of the State Hermitage Museum.

Opening the Readings, Director Mikhail B. Piotrovsky spoke about the past years’ events at the Hermitage and what the museum was planning to do in 2003. The Readings traditionally are organized in the form of an annual report of the State Hermitage Museum’s departments. Presentations dealt with the research of various problems of the history and art of the East and West from antiquity to the 20th century. Some of them addressed the perception of the 2002 Hermitage exhibitions by visitors.

Abstracts of presentations made at the Readings have been published by the State Hermitage Museum.
