What a Wondrous Flowering
West European Stained Glass and Drawings from the 15th to 17th centuries in the State Hermitage collection

The Hermitage program of stained glass research and restoration which includes conferences, publications and displays opened on 27 November, 2002, in the Winter Palace Cathedral (Room No. 271) an exhibition of West European stained glass.

The exhibition shows 32 works of German, Swiss, French and Dutch masters of the 15th-17th centuries tracing the development of this art from the early specimens made of color glass pieces fastened with wood or lead to the later gorgeous stained glass executed in various techniques.

The show also includes stained glass designs, both for private interiors and cathedrals.

The full-color illustrated catalogue contains articles of the exhibition curators, stained glass custodian Yelena Shlikevich and Alexey Larionov of the Hermitage West European Art Department.
