Drawing Distinctions
Twentieth-Century Drawings and Watercolours of the British Artists

The exhibition mounted two weeks before the end of the 20th century gives a unique opportunity to look back and to apprise the way the British artists have made during this period of time. The works are to show how the art of drawing and watercolour painting were gradually loosing aristocratism and "harmless nature" as their distinctive feature and overcame national boundaries. The display includes works greatly varying in style and comleteness - from the brief sketches demonstrating capacity of the drawn line when rendering motion and volumes to the thoroughly painted watercolours. The most important trends developing in British art in the 20th century, such as Vorticism, Constructivism, Abstractionism, Neo-romanticism and Pop Art , are represented to the public. Still more traditional genres of drawing and watercolour painting such as a study, a still-life, a topographical sketch and a landscape, are given tribute to. The exhibition features works by Henry Moore, Paul Nash, Frank Auerbach, Michael Craig-Martin, Jeffrey Dennis, Anthony Gross, David Hockney, Roger Hilton, Barbara Hepworth, Perci Wyndham Lewis, Jeremy Moon, Alan Reynolds, Bridget Riley, Stanley Spencer and other artists.
