The Treasures of the Golden Horde

The exhibition of such a great scale, that reveals contribution of the Turkic, Mongolian and other local peoples of the steppe and forest-steppe Eurasia in the medieval era in the world art and culture, is held for the first time. It features more than 1000 items dating back to the 13th to 15th centuries designed by the masters of the Golden Horde (Ulus Dzhuchi), the state situated at the foremost West of the former empire of Jenghiz-Khan after his death. Most part of the existing artifacts originate from the archeological excavations in places of the towns, settlements and tumuli of the Golden Horde, held in the 19th and 20th centuries. Of special interest at the exhibition are articles of gold and silver, that prove the treasures of the Golden Horde to be a single historical complex representing artistically made metal objects from the youngest Mongolian state founded by Batu-Khan (1227 – 1257), grandson of Jenghiz-Khan, in the early 40s of the 13th century.
