Louise Bourgeois in the Hermitage

An exhibition of the work of the noted 20th-century American sculptor Louise Bourgeois opened in the State Hermitage on 9 October 2001. The exhibition, featuring 25 sculptures and more than 200 drawings created by Bourgeois over 60 years, was arranged by the State Hermitage jointly with Julia Silvester, a curator of contemporary art in Bermuda. The exhibition has been organized with the support of the American International Group (AIG), ACE Limited, the Daros Collection in Switzerland, Helmut Lang, the Starr Foundation, the Trust for Mutual Understanding and the Laurent Perrier company. Informational support has been provided by the Domovoi magazine.

On 11 October 2001 an international symposium devoted to the work of Louise Bourgeois will be held in the Hermitage Theatre.

When the exhibition closes at the State Hermitage, it will go on to the Art Museum, Helsinki, Finland (February – May 2002) and the National Museum of Modern Art, Oslo, Norway (September – December 2002).
