New Year Party for Special Children

On 26 December, 2001, a New Year party for children with developmental disorders took place in the Hermitage Theater. Events for special children in the Hermitage Theater have become a tradition. Performances are staged by and showed to children from two St. Petersburg schools. The hall accommodating three hundred persons is packed, since all pupils of these schools take part in the events. Each participant has his or her own role: some take part in the performance, others help to put up scenery, conduct the show or look after small children in the auditorium. Everyone understands his or her contribution to the event's success.
Every year new scenarios are created after New Year and Christmas fairy tales but they are all based on the children's impressions from their classes in the Hermitage. For this reason the program is called Our Hermitage. Music, songs, dances, dramatic performances, poetry, fine arts and, certainly, the audience's storms of applause all contribute to the emotional perception of art. This year two plays will be presented. In one of them take part the Hermitage statues of ancient gods and heroes who come to life on the New Year night. The second play is based on Andersen's The Snow Queen. After the performance is over, all children receive gifts. The party is sponsored by Baker & McKenzie which also provides buses and gifts for the children.
