Fairy Tale Hermitage Program
On 27 June the School Center of the State Hermitage Museum presented
a family education program for 4 to 6 year old children and their parents,
supported by Coca Cola. The program is set to introduce young families
with 4 to 6 year old children to the world culture by way of the Museum's
collections. The Program in cooperation with ARS Publishers has published
six books, Palace Fairy Tales, Pavilion Fairy Tales, Knight Fairy Tales,
Wooden Fairy Tales, Stone Fairy Tales and Clay Fairy Tales, cognitive
development games Fairy Tale Hermitage and Knight Armor and puzzle Russian
Mosaic.
The School Center will give special classes to 4 to 6 year old children
and their parents during 4 instructional years. At first tours will be
organized for corporate sponsors of the Hermitage, later the classes will
be made public.
The Program includes regular visits to the Hermitage during one instructional
year (October to April). Success greatly depends on parents' efforts to
prepare their children for classes in the Museum's rooms which may prove
difficult to them. Parents may read class materials in one of the six
books before the visit. As parents know individual capacities of their
child, they may prepare him or her for a particular class.
An important aspect of the Program is that both children and adults are
involved through the game into the cognitive process during classes given
in the Museum. Specially developed instructional materials allow parents
and children in a joint game refresh the knowledge they acquired at the
class.
The Project is organized by the School Center of the State Hermitage Museum:
Project Manager is Irina Kureyeva, Director of the School Center; Academic
Manager is Liya Livshits, Senior Researcher of the School Center; Project
Coordinator is Yevgeny Fedorov, Senior Researcher of the Development Department.
