Produced in a single copy. Acquired for 92 roubles 92 kopecks.
Created in the period when Gallé was experimenting with different methods of decorating glass. The subtle transitions from cold shades to warmer ones are achieved by the retention of all three layers in the ornamental areas, while for the background the artist has removed one or two top layers by etching. A distinctive effect has been achieved by the inclusion of metal foil between layers.
The decoration of the vase brings together the traditions of two styles. The somewhat heavy, rather dumpy shape and the bands around upper and lower edges are typical of the age of Historicism, while the ornamental frieze made up of large hawkmoths, dragonflies and beetles has been executed in the manner of the Art Nouveau.
