This vase was produced in a single copy.
It is of conical shape, made of four layers of glass - opalescent, pink, clear and black in colour with decoration in the form of water-lilies. The silver mount for the vase, featuring dragonflies "emerging from the water" was created by Julius Rappoport, one of the famous craftsmen who worked for the Faberge company. This may be the very vase that was presented to Empress Alexandra Fiodorovna during her stay in Darnstad in 1896. According to the "Inventory of items belonging to Their Imperial Majesties that are kept in the Winter Palace", the vase stood on the Empress's desk. Reproduced on the body of the vase is a line from a poem by Maurice Maeterlinck, one of the artist's favourite authors.
