Mould-blown two-layered glass, transparent with brown over-colour; a turquoise patch has been applied to the transparent glass, a dark blue one to the brown glass. Deep etching and multi-plane engraving. Chemical matting of the inner surface

Signed on the body with the initials EG and the Cross of Lorraine between them. A relief inscription on the light ground with brown patches of the body reads Souci de plaire "(A) Yearning to please". On the base is the engraved inscription Exposition 1889 Galérie d'honneur; Emile Gallé|| fecit Nancy || 1888; C'est || mon Souci and the depiction of a snail and leaf
