The creation of this vase was probably influenced by a series of vessels in an Islamic style produced at Joseph Brocard's factory and displayed at the World Exposition in Paris in 1878. The shape of the vase is similar to the copies of 16th-century lamps from Damascus that Brocard manufactured. Gallé almost completely repeated the shape of the body and the placement of the ornamental bands. The body and neck are decorated with ornament made up of ribbons, plant motifs and dragonflies that is reminiscent of the cut designs on Chinese vessels of two-layered glass made in the 18th century.
