The egg shape was made of two-layered glass, clear and orange-brown. The decoration, consisting of lotus flowers and leaves, was devised by Gallé in 1897 for vases offered as étrennes (New-Year gifts) in Emile Bourgeois's Paris shop Le Grand Dépôt. In the Winter Palace this vase stood on the desk in the study of Empress Alexandra Fiodorovna. |
